AMATEURS CZECH OUT GOLF For the fourth successive year, amateur golfers in the Czech Republic are driving, pitching and putting in search of golfing glory and the prize of a lifetime.

In what is officially the fastest-growing golfing nation in Europe, the Czech Republic has attracted a record number of players to the 2008 Volvo Masters Amateur, four qualifying rounds and a National Final to determine who wins that one coveted place in the Volvo Masters Amateur World Final, which concludes at the world-famous Valderrama for the first time this year.

320 players, a record 25% of them women are aiming for one of just 20 places in the Czech Republic National Final, which takes place at the picturesque

6,630-yard / 6,062m, Par-72 Golf Club Mariánské Lázne near the German border on 6th September.

Famed for its healing spring waters Mariánské Lázne will provide a perfect backdrop for the fourth annual Volvo Masters Amateur event in the Czech Republic.

Last year's Czech Republic qualifier MiroslaFilip Juhaniak, playing off a 0.5 handicap easily made the top half of the leaderboard in Spain.

Volvo Cars Czech Republic have lined up an impressive array of support sponsors, with every competing players receiving a golf shirt from leading clothing firm Oscar Jacobson, whilst the prize for a hole-in-one is a dream holiday for two at the Resort Paradis in Mauritius.

But, if there is not an ace during the four qualifiers or the Czech Republic National Final, then the winner of the trip will be decided by lottery.

Amongst those taking part and chasing a place in the Volvo Masters Amateur World Final are the famous Czech Republic ice-hockey coach Slavomir Lener and the renowned film director David Ondricek.

A chance to play golf on the world stage at Valderrama and the prospect of a vacation on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, it's little wonder they are Czeck-ing out golf in the Czech Republic.

Fast Fact: From half-a-dozen golf courses in the Czech Republic a generation ago, there are now more than 50 in the country and this year, the European Challenge Tour sees the €180,000 Ypsilon Golf Challenge, played at the Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec, from August 21st -24th whilst the European Seniors Tour welcomes the €600,000 Casa Serena Open to the Casa Serena Golf.
